We are an established and friendly society of local people of all ages and abilities. Complete beginners, amateur, and professional artists meet to create and exhibit art.
The Society was founded in February 1949 by the late Paul Smyth to "promote interest in the visual arts" in the, then, Borough of Finchley, later to become the London Borough of Barnet.
We are now one of the paramount societies in the borough of Barnet in
We exist to encourage local artists to practise and develop their skills. We are not a teaching society and have no formal lessons or classes but we have many experienced members who are always willing to advise anyone requiring assistance.
We meet twice weekly in local church halls (see Regular Sessions). Tables are provided but you will need to bring your own equipment (paper, paints, easel).
There are monthly demonstrations by professional artists in a variety of mediums. These are normally held in the Trinity Church Centre on a Wednesday evening from 7.30pm-9.30pm with a break for tea. See Diary for dates.
We have 2 exhibitions of members work, one in the Spring and one in the Autumn. We also have 2 criticism evenings. These are normally all at the Trinity Church Centre. See Diary.
During the Summer we arrange outdoor painting days at local venues for which you will need your own transport. We also arrange an annual coach trip to a place of artistic interest (eg. a stately home).
So, why not come along and join us, you will be very welcome.
